Maziyar was born in southern Iran during the Iran-Iraq war and lived there until the age of 12. Afterward, he migrated to the Jolfa area of Isfahan. During his adolescence, he was very active and gained fame in sports and theater. In 1999, he was arrested during the July 9th events (the attack on Tehran University dormitory) and was imprisoned for four years in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.
