Born as Martin Jeff Krimski on December 12, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland, Kaye served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Morocco, where he met his wife Suzanne in 1958. After his military service, he launched his radio career in Providence, Rhode Island, in the late 1950s, transforming from "Jeff Krimm" to "JK the DJ" on stations WHIM and WRIB.
